Biodiversity is not only important for animals and the environment to survive, but it is also vital to human health, nutrition and medical advancements. Pharmaceutical advancements are mainly dependent on the physical diversity of microorganisms. The World Health Organization states, "Biodiversity loss also means that we are losing, before discovery, many of nature's chemicals and genes, of the kind that have already provided humankind with enormous health benefits." We may be wiping off the face of the earth the cure to cancer by disrupting the ecosystem and causing specific animals, bacteria, microorganisms, etc. to go extinct. Like the WHO said, losing before discovery. Also biodiversity is crucial for food, having a variety of food and food sources is what keeps us sustainable, if we are to lose majority of our variety it will make our world, crops and livestock more susceptible to disease, famine, natural disaster and so on.
