California has the highest amount of biodiversity per state in the United States and is also considered one of the most diverse places in the world, has a global diversity hotspot, California Floristic Province. Although it is also ranked as third highest in number of extinct species in the nation. A good majority of the native species here have specifically adapted to survive in this area, in which not many other species could strive or even scrape by. This is due to huge population boom, urban development, agriculture, etc. And California is still growing. Since this state is also supplier of about half of agricultural products for the nation, the odds do not look very good. Although in recent years we have become more environmentally aware enforcing more and more laws and regulations concerning our habitat.
